‘Gods’ stand in queue to petition for temple funds

Lord Ram, along with Sita and Laxman, stands in a queue of mortals waiting for their turn to narrate their woes before a district collector. Meanwhile, two pairs of bullocks attend a public grievance redressal cell of the local administration, seeking urgent medical help.
These are not fictional narratives. The bizarre scenes were witnessed at the public grievance hearing cells of Chhatarpur and Khargaon collectors in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday, leading to stampede-like situations at venues.
Causing a commotion at the public grievance redressal cell of Chhatarpur district collector Ramesh Bhandari, priests of the Chakradhar temple, located in Nawagaon village, dropped in at the venue carrying idols of Lord Ram, Sita and Laxman to express their anguish over the undue delay in the release of the compensation for the shrine lands acquired by the local administration despite the court order.
“We have been running from pillar to post pleading for the implementation of the court order to release compensation for temple lands acquired by the district administration”, one of the priests, Purushottam, told Mr Bhandari when his turn came.
Completely taken aback by the unexpected turn of event, the district collector immediately enquired with officers concerned and assured the priests that the issue would be resolved at the earliest.
In another such incident, two farmers, Dhyan Singh Chouhan and his brother Anar, accompanied by their bullocks, landed at the public hearing programme in Khargaon district seeking help for medical treatment for the animals, which were bitten by stray dogs.
