French President Francois Hollande will begin an official three-day visit to India from Chandigarh on Sunday, even as the proposed government-to-government agreement between the two countries for acquisition of 36 Rafale fighter aircraft is at an advanced stage of negotiations, the ministry of external affairs said on Thursday. There will be a prominent business component in the visit, with a CEO forum interaction and an India-France business summit in Chandigarh on Sunday where Mr Hollande will begin his visit.
After bilateral talks between Mr Hollande and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday, the two countries are expected to ink various agreements in several fields of cooperation that may include defence and security, civil nuclear cooperation, railways, smart cities, science and research, space, and culture, with the two nations expected to take forward their “special and strategic” ties. The French President and Prime Minister Modi will also attend the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the International Solar Alliance Secretariat at Gurgaon in Haryana bordering Delhi. President Hollande will also be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations on Tuesday.
