Roger Ailes, the former chairman of Fox News who had resigned in July following charges of sexual harassment, is, according to a report by the New York Times, is advising Donald Trump for the presidential debates due in a few weeks.
While a source said that Mr Ailes was only briefing Mr Trump for the all-important first September debate with Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, others said that his brief went beyond that.
Mr Ailes had resigned from Fox News on July 21 while undergoing investigation into sexual harassment allegations by former female employees of the channel.
Strategists meanwhile say that Mr Ailes coming on board may give a much needed boost to the Republican nominee in the US presidential race as Mr Trump has been reeling under criticism for his many public goof ups.
Mr Ailes is a seasoned and sought-after debate coach. Some say as an advisor he was instrumental in President Nixon’s win in 1968.
