An FIR was lodged against 158 people for allegedly misbehaving with Union minister, and Apna Dal leader, Anupriya Patel during a roadshow in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh on Sunday night. Local politician Vinod Dubey was named in the FIR.

Ms Patel’s convoy, while participating in the roadshow on Sunday, was stopped by a group of motorcyclists, allegedly owing allegiance to the ruling Samajwadi Party. the bikers then allegedly started misbehaving with Apna Dal workers and the minister, who was seated in her car.

Apna Dal MLA R.K. Varma told reporters that Vinod Dubey was planning to contest the Assembly elections and wanted to display his clout in the area.

Ms Patel said on Monday that local officials took a long time to reach the site of the incident.

She said that if such was the response of the law enforcement agencies to a request by a Union minister, then one could easily understand the plight of common people regarding matters of law and order.

“I think it was a conspiracy, because I was not provided with security and even after complaining, the district magistrate and the superintendent of police did not reach the spot immediately,” the Union minister said.
