The main Opposition Congress on Tuesday asked why sedition charges were not filed against BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj and BJP legislator Damodar naik for eulogising Nathuram Godse as a “martyr”, and why those who raise ISIS and Pakistani flags, shout anti-India slogans in Jammu and Kashmir and those who released dreaded terrorist Masood Azhar were let go.
Addressing a press conference here, senior Congress leader and former Union minister Kapil Sibal said the BJP promoted Sakshi Maharaj in the organisation by making him a member of the central working committee and have become a friend with a party in Jammu and Kashmir whose ideology and stand is well-known.
“The Congress party does not need lessons on patriotism from those who are successors of Nathuram Godse, those who sided with the British during the freedom struggle and those who did not even choose to fly the tricolour at the Nagpur headquartes for 52 years after the Independence.”
“It is about time that the Modi government stop hoodwinking people of India and stop suppressing the freedom of expression, right to debate, to ideate and criticise on part of the young students of India,” Mr Sibal said.
