A bizarre drama played out in a family court in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday when a couple, fighting for divorce, abandoned their five-day-old infant in the midst of hearing in the case and fled.
The court at Jatara in Tikamgarh district was completely taken aback by the development and ordered the police to immediately rush the baby to the nearby hospital to provide him proper medical care. According to the police, the warring couple — Sangeeta and Manoj Ahibar — residents of Jatara, attended the court for the hearing of their divorce case.
During the hearing, the couple suddenly got involved in heated exchanges. While Sang-eet demanded maintenance for rearing the child, Manoj rejected her plea, arguing he did not fathered the child since he was staying separately from her after filing the divorce suit three years ago. Infuri-ated over her estranged husband’s arguments, Sangeeta fled the court in a huff shoving the newborn into his arms. Manoj followed her abandoning the kid in the court. The unexpected turn of event had left the court baffled. Later, the judge ordered the police to arrange medical care for the infant by admitting him in a hospital. “The baby was admitted in the local community health centre and later shifted to the district hospital,” Jatara police station in-charge D.S.Yadav said.
