Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that he is against the ideology of RSS and other organisations that try to divide the nation.
Soon after appearing before the court of Kamrup chief judicial magistrate, Mr Gandhi told reporters, “The cases against me are filed because I am fighting for the poor and down trodden, for the rights of farmers and unemployed youth. I am not afraid and will continue to fight.”
“I’ll not be deterred. I am happy, let them file as many cases as they want, I’ll continue to fight for the unity of this country,” Mr Gandhi added.
An RSS volunteer, Anjan Bora had filed a defamation suit against Mr Gandhi, accusing him of defaming the RSS by making false charges of stopping him from visiting to the Barpeta Satra, a 16th century Vaishnavite monastery on December 12 2015.
Mr Gandhi, who arrived here on Thursday morning, was accorded a grand welcome by his party workers and senior leaders. Addressing the party workers gathered outside the court, he alleged the BJP-led governments in New Delhi and Dispur are anti-people. “The common man is suffering, while a select few are reaping all benefits,” he said. Later, Mr Gandhi had a close door meeting with top party functionaries at Rajiv Bhawan.
