Eye on polls, BJP to induct leaders Friday

After the much-awaited Cabinet expansion inducted 19 ministers in the Narendra Modi government, the organisational changes within the BJP are likely to take effect on Friday. With the Prime Minister not dropping any influential ministers from his Cabinet for the party works, BJP chief Amit Shah is likely to induct a few leaders with an eye on the key upcoming state elections.
The organisational changes within the BJP were delayed apparently to coincide with the Cabinet expansion. Mr Shah has to fill the five vacancies for vice-presidents and two general secretaries.
While three BJP MPs were inducted into the council of ministers from Uttar Pradesh in an attempt to balance the caste equations, the heavyweights from the state are likely to find key positions in the party. The BJP MP from Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency, Yogi Adityanath, who was the leading campaigner of the party in the 2014 elections, is likely to be appointed the vice-president. With the BJP banking on twin poll strategies of development and polarisation, Yogi Adityanath, who has a strong following in eastern UP, is slated for the coveted organisational position.
BJP MP Varun Gandhi too is being seen within party circles as likely to get a key party position even though the poster campaign in his name in UP has not gone down well with the top brass of the party. Yesteryears cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu is also likely to get a key position.
