The Lucknow police is planning to integrate fire and health emergency services with the police control room that responds to the centralised dial 100 service.
A panel of top officials from the state home and police departments that recently visited San Francisco, Austin and Brooklyn, to study the functioning of 911 services in the US, will give final shape to the design and functioning of the centralised police control call centre. According to ADG traffic, Anil Agarwal, who was a part of the delegation, the ERS (emergency response system) in America also caters to calls related to rescue, relief and health emergencies apart from police help.
“During our visit we learnt that the 911 service has been in the US since 1970 and evolved over the period,” he said. The panel members are of the view that the system in the state must also be citizen-centric rather than being limited to extending the police help only.
The ADG said, “A final draft of structure and functioning of the centralised dial 100 call centre will be prepared after due approval from concerned officials and will then be tabled before the chief minister for final clearance,” he said.
The ERS of UP police is slated to be functional by December 2016. The state government has already allotted seven acres land along the Shaheed Path for the centre and the process for procurement of 2,000 four-wheelers and 4,000 two-wheelers has already begun.
With 300 communication officers to receive distress calls from across the state and 200 dispatch officers to rush police help, the dial 100 call centre is slated as one of the dream projects of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.
