Don’t test Hindus, warns VHP

Equating current situation in Kashmir with the 1990s when militancy was at its peak, the VHP on Monday demanded that the government should take harshest action, including “shoot-at-sight” order, again

Equating current situation in Kashmir with the 1990s when militancy was at its peak, the VHP on Monday demanded that the government should take harshest action, including “shoot-at-sight” order, against “Pakistan-based terrorists” who are creating unrest in the Valley. The VHP also cautioned those trying to disrupt the ongoing Amarnath yatra, which was stalled for three days after the Valley witnessed violence following terrorists Burhan Wani’s killing, that “Hindu samaj” will “not sit quiet” and could “react”. It also demanded that sedition charge be imposed against controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik for promoting radicalism and terrorism.

VHP’s joint general secretary Surendra Jain accused former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah of being a “spokesperson” for terrorists and also attacked current CM Mehbooba Mufti for questioning the security forces’ action. The VHP said that if the Mufti government fails to act against those who incited violence, the BJP should quit the coalition government and President’s Rule should be imposed in the state. The Sangh Parivar affiliate demanded that sedition charges should be slapped against all those coming out in support of terrorists, including Wani.

“Whatever is happening in Kashmir is very unfortunate. The reaction to the action taken against (Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan) Wani by police was unfortunate. The current situation seems like the 90s era is returning to the Valley... This is not a time to say these are ‘misguided’ people. The people backed by Pakistan should be isolated and strictest action should be taken against them, even if it is shooting at sight,” Dr Jain said.

He alleged that Amarnath pilgrims were attacked by members of a particular community in the state when they tried to organise a ‘bhandara’ there. He also hit out at JNU student Umar Khalid for comparing Wani to a revolutionary.

“This is so unfortunate that a terrorist who was wanted for years is being compared to a revolutionary,” he said while asking Kashmiris to denounce the terror activities.

Expressing serious concerns over growing “jehadi activities” in Kerala, he said the southern state is becoming “launching pad of jehadi activities” and its high time that the state government take action. He also claimed that “secular mafias” in Kerala are giving patronage to Jehadi extremisits
