Dogs in UP to get food courts

Every dog has his day and the ones in Lucknow will soon have their day too.

Every dog has his day and the ones in Lucknow will soon have their day too. The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) is now planning to set up food courts for dog in their upcoming pet parks in the state capital. A proposal in this regard is set to be approved next month.

The food court facility will be a boon for those who want to give their pets a hearty meal after a round of exercise in the park. The LMC’s veterinary department, under the smart city plan, has proposed various facilities to improve pets’ life in the city, especially in view of the growing apartment culture in Luck now that does not allow free movement of pets.

The pet only parks in each municipal zone will earmark pathways along colony roads for walking pets and also identify “poop corners” in every colony. The parks will have swings, pathways and a swimming pool for pets. The food court will offer packed and unpa-cked treats for dogs.

LMC plans to tie up with companies specialising in manufacturing of dog food to put up stalls inside these parks. LMC veterinary officer Arvind Kumar Rao said, “A food court will be a must for all dog parks so that people do not have to go elsewhere to feed their pets”.

In the first phase, the dog parks are proposed in Gomti Nagar and Nirala Nagar and will later be developed in other zones. According to LMC sources, there are around 5000 pet dogs in the city who will be able to avail the new facility — at a price, of course. Last year, the corporation had initiated a drive to catch unregistered pets and levied a penalty of Rs 5000 on erring owners. The idea behind the exercise was to ascertain the exact number of pets in the city so that it could plan facilities for them under “Smart City” model.
