While supporting the confidence motion moved by the Leader of the House, BJP leader Tamiyo Taga said: “We have been accused of toppling the Congress government, which is not a fact.” Clarifying that the BJP can’t support a Congress government, Mr Taga expressed confidence in the leadership of Mr Pul while asserting he would succeed in fulfilling the hopes of Arunachal’s people. He said: “As democracy is a game of numbers, Mr Kalikho Pul came forward and we moved a composite floor test where Mr Pul had an absolute majority. We then supported Mr Pul as a better leader and will continue do the same unconditionally in the supreme interest of the state but not of the Congress Party.” Mr Pul, seeking a confidence vote, said: “All members and officers are aware of the situation while the masses living in far-flung areas are unaware of the political situation and the reasons behind it.” He said he was moving this motion to let the world know India is a democratic country and its government was being run by democratically-elected leaders. Mr Pul reiterated: “Numbers matters in a democracy. But democratic principles cannot be undermined.”

He recalled the chronology of events that took place during the political instability in the state.
