In yet another case of suspected “honour killing”, a dalit woman, aged 26, was murdered, allegedly by a caste Hindu, here over an inter-caste love marriage.

In yet another case of suspected “honour killing”, a dalit woman, aged 26, was murdered, allegedly by a caste Hindu, here over an inter-caste love marriage.

Viswanathan (25), a railway employee had eloped with his lover, Kavery (20), belonging to the Thevar community on May 3 and married her. The city police commissioner, Thirugnanam, said the girl’s parents and relatives objected to the wedding. Kavery’s father, Sankar, picked a quarrel with the bridegroom’s family. Viswanathan’s sister, Kalpana, was hacked to death. Viswanathan was not present at the time of the incident. On March 13, a young inter-caste married couple was attacked by a gang.
