Nawada: A woman died on Saturday after she was beaten up, allegedly by her husband and in-laws, in the district, as her family could not fulfil the demand of a motorcycle as dowry.

Mamta Devi (22) was beaten up with sticks, allegedly by her husband Vinod Yadav and in-laws, three days back at Balraji village in the district, police said.

After Mamta's condition worsened, she was taken to Sadar Hospital this morning where she died during treatment, sources said.

On the complaint of the deceased's family, an FIR has been lodged. Five persons, who have been named in the FIR, including the husband, are absconding, Superintendent of Police Vikas Burman said.

Mamta got married to Vinod Yadav four years ago, and they have a daughter. According to the complaint, the husband used to pressurise Mamta to bring money from her father to buy a motorcycle which her family had refused, police said.
