Lucknow: Trouble, it is said, always comes in twos, and expelled BSP leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui should know it best.

Hours after his expulsion from the party, the Lucknow Police geared up to file a chargesheet against him in a case related to making derogatory references to the female members of the family of BJP leader Dayashankar Singh in 2016.

Swati Singh, the wife of Mr Singh, who had been jailed for his objectionable remarks against Ms Mayawati, is now a minister the Yogi government and has demanded that action in the matter. The complaint against these leaders had been filed by his mother Tetra Devi.

Investigating officer Avinash Misra has already sent notices to the alleged accused to present them and record statement but none of them have responded so far. SSP Deepak Kumar said on Thursday the investigations were nearing completion and the chargesheet would be filed “any day”. Mr Siddiqui said on Thursday that he had not raised any such slogans and if any video recording could prove the charges, he was ready to face action.
