CPM says TMC is ‘match-fixing’

Pitted against its strong political rival and the ruling party in West Bengal Trinamul Congress and a looming threat from the BJP, which is trying to create its base in the state ahead of the 2016 Assembly polls, the CPI(M) on Sunday said it will launch a major campaign against growing communal intolerance and “attacks on democracy” by the Trinamul Congress in the state, accusing it of “match-fixing” with the BJP. CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury accused the TMC of “match-fixing” with the BJP in Parliament even as his party colleague Surjya Kanta Mishra launched a scathing attack on the Trinamul saying “What we have seen in 18 months of the BJP rule at the Centre, the same underhand dealing has been witnessed during the four-and-a-half years of TMC rule in Bengal, especially on economic policies.”

The Left parties have decided to launch an intensive nationwide campaign “against growing communal intolerance and hatred being spearheaded by the RSS-BJP across the country” in the first week of December, Mr Yechury told mediapersons.

He said the campaign in West Bengal will include public meetings and demonstrations and culminate in a mass rally in Kolkata on December 27, when the CPI(M) will start a five-day organisational plenum to find ways to strengthen itself.
