Sonu Sisodia, a key accused in the Dadri lynching case, has been given a clean chit by the UP police. His name does not figure in the chargesheet filed in the case.
According to officials, there was no evidence to prove that Sisodia was present at the location where the crime took place. The chargesheet, however, names three accused — Bheem, Puneet and a juvenile.
It may be recalled that Mohammed Ikhlaq, 55, was lynched in Bisada village in Dadri in September last year following rumours that he had and his family had consumed and stored beef in their house. Danish, his younger son, was seriously injured in the mob attack on his house.
Sonu was arrested following the statement of Mohd Ikhlaq’s daughter Shaista, who accused him for attacking his father and brother.
DSP, Dadri, Anurag Singh said that the CCTV footage and the statements of his co-workers confirmed that he was in a mall at the time of the incident.
“The court was intimated about this. Process of his release has been initiated and charges against him have been dropped,” the police official said.
However, the family of the Dadri victim is unwilling to accept the police version. “We are continuously opposing police theory. We will seek re-investigation of Sonu’s involvement in the case,” said Yusuf Saifi, the family lawyer.
The chargesheet, interestingly, did not mention anything about the forensic report of the meat which was recovered from the spot.
The Akhilesh Yadav government had given a compensation of '45 lakhs and four flats to the family of the victim.
