Eyebrows were raised in political circles here with BJP Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy set to share the dais with “controversial” builder Dilip Suryavanshi at an RSS-sponsored event slated to be held here on July 9.
Mr Swamy is scheduled to give a lecture in a seminar on “Multi-Dimensional Terrorism and Its Solution”, organised by the Bharat Rakshya Manch, an RSS affiliate, here on Saturday.
Incidentally, the event is scheduled to be chaired by Mr Suryavanshi, promoter of Dilip Buildcon Limited (DBL), which was raided by income-tax sleuths in June 2012 to unearth unaccounted wealth allegedly accumulated by him.
Mr Suryavanshi’s fortune saw a meteoric rise after BJP came to power in MP in 2003. The annual turnover of the company rose from Rs 13 crore in 2004-05 to Rs 1,000 crore in 2012. The company has bagged several road construction projects from state-owned MP road development corporation.
The Opposition Congress here had targeted the chief minister for his closeness with the billionaire builder. Mr Swamy’s apparent decision to attend an event chaired by the “controversial” builder has created a ripple in the political circle here, particularly in the ruling BJP.
“The development, coming in the wake of chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan meeting RSS top brass at Nagpur on Wednesday, apparently to apprise them of the dissension brewing in the ruling BJP over the sacking of veteran leaders Babulal Gaur and Sartaj Singh, is viewed with significance here,” a ruling party leader here told this newspaper.
The rumblings in MP BJP over the sacking of the two leaders have also reportedly been taken note of by the central party leadership, sources disclosed.
