The Congress is suggesting creating a coordination mechanism between the ruling partners — the Janata Dal (United), the RJD and the Congress — in Bihar in view of growing violence in the state after the mahagatbandhan came to power last year. “There should be a coordination committee of the leaders of the three ruling allies which can periodically review the law and order situation in the state,” said an AICC official here on Saturday.
Although the Congress is yet to convey this to chief minister Nitish Kumar and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, such incidents are strengthening the BJP’s campaign of the return of “jungle raj” in Bihar after the RJD emerged as a largest single party in the state and became the key partner in the Nitish Kumar government.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had played a key role in the formation of the “grand alliance” in the state Assembly polls against the BJP.
Mr Lalu Yadav, who had realised that the coming together of the JD(U), Congress and the NCP would have marginalised his party, compelled to make a comprise with the JD(U). A coordination mechanism had worked well in UPA-1 as the Congress and the then outside supporter, the Left, used to meet regularly to discuss important issues.
The incidents of violence have increased in Bihar after Mr Nitish Kumar started uniting anti-BJP parties in the Hindi belt.
