Hitting back at the Congress, the BJP on Friday said the Congress of today does not represent the Congress of the freedom movement, claiming that Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Patel would have never thought it would become a “family concern”.

The Congress had accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of insulting freedom fighters after his remarks made at a BJP function on Thursday.

Taking a dig at the Congress V-P Rahul Gandhi over his tweet, Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said he will have to first find out who tweeted on Mr Gandhi’s behalf and also his knowledge of history before he responds to comments.

He insisted that Mr Modi in his speech did not undermine the role of the Congress in the freedom movement and recalled that he had praised Nehru in his August 15 speech.

Mr Prasad cited participation of RSS founder K.B. Hedgewar in the freedom struggle and also highlighted the “role” of RSS and Bharatiya Janata Party in liberation struggle for Goa and Hyderabad, besides in movement against the Emergency to underscore the “sacrifices” made by them.
