Even as defence minister Manohar Parrikar tore into the Congress by promising to reach out to the actual beneficiaries in the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal, BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Friday claimed that a senior Congress leader had recently met a middleman involved in the deal in Dubai and sought to know whether the Centre was aware of it.
Mr Thakur, who initiated the calling attention motion in the Lok Sabha on the matter, also indirectly attacked Congress president Sonia Gandhi by claiming that “a name came up four times in the Italian court judgement... and if so much heartburn is being suffered by the Opposition benches, then what will happen to them if I take the name”.
Amid repeated protests from the Opposition benches, Mr Thakur said the way the defence minister has put his points, truth will come out about “who all have taken the bribe. Was only Tyagi family involved in this ”
“How much time the defence minister will take in this investigation, I want to know. If there is any corruption involved, it should be investigated,” he said.
Mr Thakur took on the Congress saying the party has “completely ruined the system” and also indulged in corrupt practices.
In all the defence scams, the Congress’ involvement is there. “Who are the people involved in the AgustaWestland deal Why was the company favoured,” he sought to know from the Opposition benches.
Participating in the calling attention motion, Trinamul Congress MP Saugata Roy accused both the BJP and Congress of having a nexus and sought to know from the government why there was no inquiry against former defence minister A.K. Antony in the two years of NDA rule.
He also asked the Government as to how many names of political leaders have been mentioned in the Italian court’s judgement on the chopper deal.
