Close shave for Lt Gen as IAF aircraft tyre bursts
Central Army Command chief Lt. Gen. B.S.
Central Army Command chief Lt. Gen. B.S. Negi and seven other personnel belonging to the Army and IAF had a close shave on Saturday when one of the tyres of an IAF Avro aircraft burst while landing at the Jolly Grant airport, 30 km east of Dehradun, on Saturday morning.
The IAF Avro aircraft of the Central Air Command had flown in from Lucknow where the Central Army Command is located. The IAF said there was no damage to life and property on the ground and that none of the people on board had sustained any injury. There were four crew members of the IAF and four Army personnel including Lt. Gen. Negi on board. Authorities are set to probe the incident.
According to news agency reports from Dehradun, police officers there said the incident occurred after the 45-seater Avro plane of the IAF landed on the runway. The incident reportedly affected flight operations with the aircraft stuck on the runway for some time, making it impossible for a while for flights to either take off or land.
“There is no reason to worry as everyone is safe. But with the plane stuck on the runway, flights are blocked.
A chopper from IAF’s Agra airbase has arrived with a team of technical staff to replace the tyre and clear the runway so that flight operations can be restored,” Dehradun SSP Sadanand Date was quoted as saying.
