AISF activists clash with ABVP, BJP office attacked A day after JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar was sent to judicial custody, AISF activists clashed with the ABVP in Patna on Thursday. According to BJP sources, the incident occurred when protesters, led by AISF activists, tried to forcibly enter the BJP office.

The police, however, after a pitched battle managed to control the situation but the BJP and other NDA parties held the JD(U) and RJD responsible for the clash. State BJP president Mangal Pandey, alleging that the BJP office was attacked by the protesters, said, “The planning to vandalise the BJP office was made in the JD(U) and RJD offices.”

While venting out his anger over the incident, Mr Pandey termed “the attack an act of cowardice” and even challenged the workers of the JD(U) and RJD for an “open fight instead of attacking from behind”.

“The police and the magistrate failed to stop the violence. The party will not leave the issue... we will raise the issue and will also seek action against them,” state BJP president Mangal Pandey said. He also said that the attackers didn’t look like students as they were carrying rods and threw bottles. The AISF activists, however, later rubbished the allegation saying that the BJP workers had attacked them while they were taking out a protest march and were crossing the street where the BJP office is located. They claimed that at least four AISF members sustained injuries and were sent to a local hospital for treatment.

Rubbishing all allegations levelled by the BJP state president against the JD(U) and RJD, JD(U) and RJD leaders said, “BJP leaders are trying to hide their faces behind such allegations. Even after so many hours they have not been able to gather any proof against Kanhaiya. We demand his immediate release.”

According to sources, attack on Kanhiya has left his parents worried and police security has been stepped up his village. They said BJP and ABVP workers in Begusarai have been agitating against Kanhaiya Kumar, seeking stern action against him.

Seeing growing unrest over the issue the police stepped up the security in Kanhaiya’s village. According to Begusarai Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar, “a team comprising of five armed policemen have been deployed as a precautionary measure”.
