The Chhattisgarh high court on Wednesday served notices to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the state cricket association seeking their replies to a plea to shift the IPL matches slated to be held in Raipur in May, owing to the water crisis facing the state.

A division bench of the court issued notices to BCCI and the Chhattisgarh Cricket Sangh (CCS) while hearing two public interest litigations seeking relocating two IPL matches, scheduled to be held at Shaheed Vir Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium here on May 20 and 22, due to the serious water scarcity facing the locality.

Delhi Daredevils, which has adopted the stadium as one of its home grounds, is scheduled to play Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challenger Bangalore on May 20 and 22, respectively.

The Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC), which has been assigned the task of supplying water for the events, put its side before the court, contending that the water problem in the city was not that serious that it warrants cancellation of the two IPL matches. While arguing in favour of holding the IPL matches in the stadium, RMC said the city has enough water to meet the needs of the events.

The court sought replies from BCCI and CCS by May 4, the next date of hearing in the case.
