Centre: Kashmir getting back to normal, hoping for peaceful Id

The Centre claimed on Monday that the situation in the Kashmir Valley was getting back to normal and was hopeful that the festival of Id-ul-Zuha would pass off peaceful.

“The situation in Kashmir is gradually returning to normalcy and we hope that Id-ul-Zuha will pass off peacefully,” Union home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi said.

Mr Mehrishi’s comment come after the Centre has made stringent security arrangements, imposing restrictions almost at par with a curfew-like situation, to check any incident of violence during the Id festival.

The decision to impose section 144 which restricts assembly of large number of people was taken following a call by separatists for a march to the local offices of the United Nations on Tuesday. Unrest in Kashmir Valley has been continuing ever since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani on July 8.

So far deadly violence has left 76 people, including two police personnel, dead and more than 10,000 others injured.
