A special CBI court on Tuesday granted bail to a businessman who was earlier chargesheeted by the CBI along with others in connection with the alleged corruption in supply of packaged drinking water in Rajdhani and other superfast trains.
Sharan Bihari Aggarwal, one of the alleged accused in the case has filed a bail application through his counsel before the court of special judge Vinod Kumar. The court after hearing their submission allowed his plea.
The court asked him to furnish a bail bond of Rs 2 lakh and a surety of the same amount. The court also observed that the chargesheet had already been filed in the case and an accused cannot be kept in jail for an indefinite period. Aggarwal was arrested in October.
The court noted that the investigation in the case was over and the CBI has filed a chargesheet but since the sanction to prosecute accused public servants under the provision of the Prevention of Corruption Act has not been received, it cannot take cognisance of the final report. “In the present case, the investigation is complete and chargesheet has been filed,” the court said.
