According to sources, the CBI has taken over investigation after re-registering an FIR under IPC sections, including those related to murder, arson and rioting, against 11 persons of whom six are under judicial custody and five absconding.
Talking to reporters here, CBI spokesperson Devpreet Singh said, “The CBI has registered a case under Sections 147, 149, 452, 436, 302, 307 of IPC & Section 3 of SC/ST Act against 11 accused persons and taken over the investigation of the FIR No. 325/2015 registered on October 20 at police station Sadar, Ballabhgarh, district Faridabad”. She added that a CBI team sleuths, headed by a DIG-level officer, including officials of Central Forensic Science Laboratory, visited the crime scene on Thursday and collected some exhibits for in-depth investigation.
In the early hours of October 20, alleged upper caste assailants had set ablaze the house of Jitender after pouring petrol from the window. Jitendra’s son Vaibhav, who was two-and-a-half-years-old, and 11-month-old daughter Divya were killed, while his wife Rekha, 28, is battling for her life at Safdarjung Hospital.
The local police had registered a case against Sunped (village) residents Balwant and his son Dharm Singh, besides nine others, including Jagat, Aidal, Naunihal, Joginder, Sooraj, Akash, Aman, Sanjay and Desh Raj. Jagat, Aidal, Naunihal, Joginder and Deshraj are still absconding. A special investigating team was constituted by the district administration under DCP P.C. Pawar to probe the incident, but the Haryana government recommended a CBI inquiry as outrage mounted. The incident had come to light on October 21 sparking a nation-wide outrage.
Sources said, “The agency will soon analyse the call detail records of all suspects in the case. Besides, CBI will also scrutinise reports of all scientific tests conducted by the state police during its investigations in the case”.
