The campaign for the Assembly elections in five states has begun from Parliament with Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking the Congress why the Food Security Act has not been implemented in Kerala while the AIADMK targeted the DMK in the Aircel-Maxis deal demanding a CBI probe into it.
The BJP will make the non-implementation of the Food Security Act an issue in the Kerala battle against the Congress heading the UDF. Mr Modi on Thursday raised this issue in the Lok Sabha while drawing attention to how it has not been implemented in the four Congress-ruled states — Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Manipur.
The Food Security Act was one of the key plans of the Congress.
Talking about the Food Security Act brought by the UPA, Mr Modi said it had not been implemented by four Congress-ruled states, including poll-bound Kerala.
“You enjoy talking Gujarat... Your own government in Kerala has not implemented it. You are going to polls there with full force. People will ask why your government did not implement FSA,” he said. Interestingly, corruption will be an issue in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal polls where the leaders of the ruling parties and the Opposition are facing the allegations.
While the Congress could face the anti-incumbency factor in the Kerala battle, the BJP’s objective is to get political space in the three states.
The BJP, Left and the AIADMK members are expected to raise corruption issues in Parliament in these three states in the coming days against the Congress, the Trinamul Congress and the DMK leaders as the Assembly polls are expected in the next month. Interestingly, the Samajwadi Party and the BSP, which have been maintaining equi-distance from the Congress and the BJP, are not keen to speak on it since corruption will also be an issue in Uttar Pradesh, which is going to polls in the next 13 to 14 months.
