BSP comeback no longer easy: Akhilesh Yadav

UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday told the Bahujan Samaj Party that a lot had changed in the past 10 years and it was no longer easy for them to think of coming to power in Uttar Pradesh.

UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday told the Bahujan Samaj Party that a lot had changed in the past 10 years and it was no longer easy for them to think of coming to power in Uttar Pradesh.

The chief minister also indicated that elections in UP would be held in early 2017. “We want the weather to be pleasant when polls are held so that all of us can campaign in a good atmosphere,” he said.

The chief minister, while thanking the members on the last day of the Monsoon Session on Thursday, asked the BSP, “You had formed Bhaichara Committees, but where are they today The advent of new technologies like WhatsApp has created awareness among all sections of people and information is now available at their finger tips. Everyone knows everything about everyone and development is going to be a major issue in the upcoming Assembly elections.”

He said that parties who were dependent on casteism alone would not be able to spring back to power.

“In any case, the BSP has lost its voice after the exit of Swami Prasad Maurya,” he said in an obvious reference to Mr Maurya’s loud voice.

The chief minister said the loyalties of members had shifted and more loyalties would change in the coming weeks. “This is understandable because every member wants to win elections and opts for a party that can help it win the polls. The priority is to win elections and we have a number of members wanting to join the Samajwadi Party,” he explained.

Mr Yadav said that he had got constructed a new office for the chief minister that was a replica of the Vidhan Bhavan building. “If I have done so much, don’t I deserve to sit in that building ” he asked among a thunderous applause.

He said that some of his own party leaders were sceptical about his laptop scheme, but today several other states are copying the scheme which is one of the biggest in the world.

“Some channels claimed that laptops were being sold in the market and I asked them to bring me at least one laptop that was being sold by the beneficiaries, but no one came back to me,” he said.

Mr Akhilesh Yadav assured the house that he would present his sixth Budget next year because he was confident of forming the government again.

“The biggest indication that we are returning to power is the fact that investors are coming to us even now. Investors never come to state if the government t is on its way out,” he said.

The chief minister also slammed the Modi government for holding back funds and attempting to stall the developmental work in UP. He said that the Samajwadi Party believed in translating dreams into reality and not just building castles in the air.
