In a rather bizarre incident, a young couple in Kanpur, called off their marriage because they shared a difference of opinion over Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The couple arranged a meeting at a temple in Kanpur a day before the wedding was to take place. The meeting was arranged to decide how they would split the wedding expenses. As the couple, whose names are being withheld on request, discussed issues related to the wedding, the conversation steered to the economic slowdown.

The woman blamed the PM for the poor economic condition while the man, a staunch Modi supporter, kept arguing in the PM’s favour. Finally, they decided that since they disagreed on so many issues, it was best to part ways than live together and fight all the time. The woman told her friends that the prospective groom was ‘almost obsessed’ with Mr Narendra Modi and would not hear a single word against him. “If I am not free to have my opinion, how can I spend my life in such an atmosphere”, she told her friends. The man, however, refused to comment on the issue but said that the marriage was called off due to ‘irreconcilable differences’. The families of the couple did try to resolve issues but the two did not agree to marry each other.
