BJP worker killed in Kerala CM’s bastion

A 25-year-old BJP worker was hacked to death in Pinarayi on Wednesday, two days after the murder of a CPI(M) activist.

A 25-year-old BJP worker was hacked to death in Pinarayi on Wednesday, two days after the murder of a CPI(M) activist.

Police identified the deceased as Prenith, adding the incident occurred at around 10.30 am near a petrol pump in Pinarayi, the home town of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Waynad SP K. Karthick said he was on his way to the spot to take stock of the situation. Kannur has witnessed a series of attacks on political workers in the recent past. A CPI(M) activist and toddy shop worker, Mohanan (40), was murdered by a six-member gang at Pathiriyad in the district two days ago, with CPI(M) holding RSS workers responsible.

Demanding a CBI probe into the brutal killing of its worker by the “political goondas” of the CPI(M), the BJP on Wednesday said only those political outfits who cannot engage in a political debate with rivals resort to violence. Condemning the killings of BJP worker Prenith, in Pinarayi in Kannur district, party president Amit Shah said the brutal killing in the hometown of the CM “clearly shows that these are sponsored killings of the marxist cadres with the active patronage of the state chief minister.”

“As political parties with varying ideologies, we may have differences in opinion in the political arena but resorting to violence is an instrument for parties that cannot engage in a political debate with rivals. Kannur has been the epicentre of marxist violence in Kerala. That such a spiral of violence has been unleashed in the native village of the CM reflects the true motive of the LDF alliance,” alleged Mr Shah. The BJP said it has no faith in the police and demanded a CBI probe.
