BJP starts selecting candidates

The ruling BJP in Chhattisgarh on Thursday set in motion the move to select party candidates for the ensuing Assembly polls in the state, due to be held by end of 2013.

The poll observers appointed by the party began intense discussions with local party workers and the district and block unit functionaries to assess prospects of each aspiring candidates in their respective Assembly constituencies. “We have started interactions with grass root level workers as well as local block and district unit functionaries of the party to assess the ground level situation before finalising our candidates for all the 90 Assembly seats in the state,” a senior BJP leader said. “Party workers as well as aspiring candidates have expressed their reservation for re-nomination of several ministers in the Raman Singh government and also some MLAs, facing credibility crisis in public. We will take their opinion into consideration before giving final shape to our candidates’ list”, a senior BJP leader involved in the exercise told this newspaper. Raman Singh received overwhelming support for his candidature from Rajnandgaon seat.
