BJP replaces Bihar leader for debacle
After a decade, the composition and look of the Bihar Assembly has dramatically changed.
After a decade, the composition and look of the Bihar Assembly has dramatically changed. The BJP, which used to be a part of the Treasury bench, will sit in the Opposition, while the much-criticised RJD and the Congress, which used to sit in the Opposition, will now occupy the Treasury bench along with the JD(U) headed by chief minister Nitish Kumar.
Holding a long meeting in Patna to review the massive defeat in the state, Union minister Ananth Kumar and BJP leader Bhupendra Yadav decided to change their leader of the Legislature Party in the Bihar Assembly Nand Kishore Yadav for another senior state unit leader, MLA Prem Kumar.
When asked about his reaction about being replaced with Prem Kumar, Mr Yadav said, “I cannot accept any post after my party lost in the Assembly election. A new face should get a chance.”
However, BJP sources said senior party leaders took the decision after Mr Yadav took responsibility for the party’s debacle in Bihar and proposed Prem Kumar’s name for the post.
While the BJP held an internal review meeting on Sunday, LJP leader and the BJP’s dalit face Ram Vilas Paswan reiterated that the “Mahagathbandhan will not survive for long”. Predicting mid-term polls, he said both Lalu Yadav and Nitish Kumar were poles apart ideologically and they could never walk together for a long time. “Everyone is aware of Lalu Yadav’s nature and signature, it will never change,” Mr Paswan said on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Congress veteran and former Assembly Speaker Sadanand Singh took oath as pro tem speaker on Sunday and will administer the oath of office to the legislators in the state Assembly on December 2 while a new Speaker will be elected on December 3. State governor Ram Nath Kovind will also address a joint session on December 3.
