As campaigning for the fifth and final phase ended on Tuesday, leaders of the Grand Secular Alliance launched a stinging attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP for holding chief minister Nitish Kumar responsible for giving patronage to terrorist outfits in Bihar.

Leaving no stone unturned in attacking its political opponents, the BJP on Tuesday released an advertisement in local newspapers against the Nitish Kumar-led Grand Secular Alliance, highlighting the deteriorating law and order situation, scams and Mr Kumar’s alleged failure in establishing good governance in the state.

The BJP, in its nine-point advertisement, also accused Mr Kumar for giving patronage to Yasin Bhatkal and other terrorists, and held him and his government responsible for the formation of the Darbhanga module in Bihar. In the ad, the BJP said that the “land of Ashok and Buddha is known today by the Darbhanga module”.

The nine charges against Mr Kumar, Mr Yadav and the Sonia Gandhi-led Congress resulted in some sharp reactions from the leaders of the Grand Secular Alliance. Mr Kumar, while wrapping up campaigning for the final phase on Tuesday, showed a photograph of famous astrologer Bejan Daruwala reading Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s palm. “Why has he not said anything on his meeting with Bejan Daruwala This is his real face,” Mr Kumar said on Tuesday during his rally.

Earlier, he and Mr Yadav had attacked the BJP saying that Maharashtra and NDA-ruled states “will burst crackers if the BJP lost in Bihar”, referring to the strained relationship of the party with its allies.
