BJP: No new PDP demands were accepted

The BJP said Wednesday the party hadn’t acceded to any new demands by the Peoples’ Democratic Party, and it was up to the PDP to take steps for government formation in J&K. Speculation was rife since PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti’s 15-minute meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday that a new government would at last be formed in the state.

Ms Mufti described her meeting with the PM as “very positive and good”. BJP general secretary Ram Madhav, its pointsman for the state, told reporters “we haven’t accepted any new conditions from the PDP”. He said Ms Mufti’s meeting with the PM was “cordial... (when) specific issues were not discussed”.

He added she too hadn’t put up any conditions at the meeting.

BJP sources said Ms Mufti was told to discuss nitty-gritty details of the alliance with the saffron leadership. Mr Madhav said last week any new demand could be taken up by the new state government with the Centre, as it couldn’t give assurances to political parties.
