Ahead of the Assembly elections in key states, the BJP’s national executive is expected to meet next month. The two-day event, likely to begin on March 19, will see party leadership giving final shape to election strategies as well as to enthuse party cadre, who were left dejected after the BJP-led NDA’s humiliating defeat in Bihar elections. The BJP leadership will also be fine-tuning their strategies to take on the Opposition, which seems to have united after Bihar’s poll verdict.
The Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Puduchery, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal are likely to be held in April-May while Uttar Pradesh will go to polls early next year.
After the Bihar setback and considering that its governments in Gujarat and Haryana have lost some political capital owing to Patel and Jat quota stirs, the BJP’s challenge is to regain its ground and push its expansion.
The meeting will be held days after the first leg of the Budget Session.
