Three men threw chilli powder on BJP MLA Kapil Dev Agarwal at his residence on Monday.

Three men threw chilli powder on BJP MLA Kapil Dev Agarwal at his residence on Monday.

Mr Agarwal was meeting local people in his Gandhi Nagar residence in Muzaffarnagar district when the three young men came to him on the pretext of sorting out a grievance, submitted an application with him and then threw chilli powder in his eyes.

The attackers then escaped on a bike before others present even realised what had happened. One of the attackers was identified as Kapil from Pinana village.

The legislator, who was elected to the Vidhan Sabha in a byelection in February, was admitted to a private hospital.

“We have done primary first aid and dressed his eyes, but we will have to go in for advanced tests soon as there might be damage to the cornea or the eyes in general,” a doctor treating Mr Agarwal told local reporters.

Senior police officials in Lucknow said that the police has started investigations.
