The Uttarakhand police Friday arrested BJP MLA Ganesh Joshi, accused of assaulting police horse “Shaktiman”, which was so severely injured that his hind leg had to be amputated late Thursday night.

IGP (Garhwal Range) Sanjay Gunjyal said the Mussoorie MLA was arrested outside a hotel in Patel Nagar on an FIR lodged against him over the March 14 assault on the horse. The IGP said the MLA was being interrogated.

The Bharatiya Janata Party strongly protested against the MLA’s arrest, that came a day after BJP worker Pramod Bora was arrested in Haldwani.

The injured horse, whose fractured leg was amputated, can now stand with the help of an artificial leg.
