Sunday’s terror attack in Kashmir that killed 18 Indian soldiers loomed large on day one of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s three-day national meet that started in Kerala’s Kozhikode on Friday.

Amid demands for tough action against Pakistan, general secretary Ram Madhav told reporters that the party appreciates the sentiments in the country, and “actions will keep happening.”

Mr Madhav, who has advocated punitive action against Pakistan, parried questions about the party's position on the terror attack, but made it clear that it would be deliberated in the meet to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The PM is scheduled to address a public meeting on Saturday and speak on the attack. BJP president Amit Shah will also speak on Saturday, and deliver his address to the party on Sunday, when the PM will give the valedictory speech.

“A lot has happened in the last three days, especially on the diplomatic front. The party will air its views in the coming days. Let's wait for a while,” Mr Madhav said.

Soon after the terror attack in north Kashmir’s Uri, Mr Madhav had said India must adopt the policy of “for one tooth, the complete jaw”, asserting that the days of strategic restraint were over.

Taking on Pakistan for raising the Kashmir issue at the UN, BJP national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said Pakistan -"revealed its true colour-" and its PM Nawaz Sharif -"misused the UN platform.-"

During deliberations with BJP leaders, Mr Shah on Friday, the party asked its state governments to execute schemes aimed at the welfare of the poor in the centenary birth anniversary year of its ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyay.

The BJP said on Friday that it was keen to expand in Kerala and prepared to coordinate with and accept any political party into its fold.
