In UP, BJP gets ready for ‘saffron’ Holi

Holi in Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will take on a saffron hue this year to underline the concept of nationalism.

Holi in Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will take on a saffron hue this year to underline the concept of nationalism. This year Holi coincides with the martyrdom of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, and the BJP is keen to use the occasion to “spread the saffron colour of nationalism”.

BJP media in-charge for Kashi region Sanjay Bhardwaj said that the BJP workers will play Holi only with saffron colour by mixing yellow abir and vermilion to prepare saffron colour. “Holi will be played to the chant of ‘Rang de Basanti Chola’, which was the anthem of the three martyrs. BJP workers will sing the song during Holi celebrations and also during the subsequent Holi Milan programmes where we will also pay home to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev,” Mr Bhardwaj said.

The party has decided to observe “Rang De Basanti Chola” week from March 20 to 26 in different districts, including Varanasi. Photographs of Bharat Mata, along with martyrs like Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru, will be displayed at such programmes and senior leaders will speak on real nationalism, for which these martyrs had sacrificed their lives

The idea behind this saffron Holi is to blunt the opposition campaign on the JNU issue and revive the spirit of nationalism in the common man.

“We will reignite the spirit of nationalism in the common man and tell them how anti-national slogans were being raised at the JNU which the opposition parties are now defending. The people should understand that anti-national slogans would not be tolerated in the name of freedom of expression,” said the BJP media in-charge.

The BJP also plans to reach out into the villages where two party workers will camp and organise the programme to mark the martyrdom of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev and also play Holi.
