Even as the Congress was guarded in its response to the conviction of RJD supremo in the fodder scam, the BJP welcomed the verdict. BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “Today, the law has taken its own course. All those who commit corruption with impunity need to understand that law will catch up with you. I am sure it will also catch up with those who are with the government of India.” Incidentally, the Congress too echoed the views of Prasad by saying that the law has taken its course. Party leader Rashid Alvi said, “I have respect for the judgement given by the court as law does not discriminate between person to person. Law has taken its own course. We have respect for the court.” Former chief minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi, who was original petitioner in the case, hailed the verdict in a tweet. He said, “Lalu has got what he had sown. Boya pedh babul ka to phool kahan se hoi (how could he get flower when he had sown a tree of thorn ).” BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy appreciating the judgment said the scam involved two chief ministers namely Lalu Prasad and Jagannath Mishra. He said, “We have seen in the last decade Lalu Prasad has been making political compromises with the UPA government, PM Manmo-han Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. He survived and escaped from the law and has survived to be in government and has been playing political games.” Steering clear of questions on future tie-up with the RJD in the wake of the Court verdict, Congress party communication department chief Ajay Maken said, “It’s too early to say what impact it will have on alliance in Bihar and Jharkhand. We cannot say anything on what will happen about alliance.” He further said “There should not be political reactions on a judicial process. This is a judicial process and we would not like to comment on it. As we always says judicial process should go on without any hindrance.” Union minister Sachin Pilot said, “Law is same for everybody whether it is bureaucrats, journalists or businessmen. Law is supreme. We have faith in the judiciary and everyone must abide by it.” RJD MP Raghuvansh Prasad Singh said that the party would work unitedly even in the absence of Lalu. BJP leader Arun Jaitley charged the UPA government with approving the ordinance on lawmakers to protect the RJD chief. “It has taken 17 years for justice to be done.. When conviction appe-ared to be inevitable, the UPA even prepared for life after conviction.
