The Monsoon Session of the Orissa Assembly took off with a stormy note with the ruling party MLAs shouting slogans against the Centre and Chhattisgarh over the Mahanadi water dispute and Polavaram dam issue.

Some of the treasury bench members were so much hysterical to create ruckus in the House that they started shouting slogans against the Centre and the Opposition BJP and Congress during the customary recitation of the national anthem.

The Congress members alleged that BJD legislator from Chandbali Byomkesh Ray started shouting slogans before the recitation of the national anthem thereby disrespecting it.

The Opposition Congress termed it as a disregard to the national anthem. Lea-der of the Opposition Nar-asingha Mishra alleged that it was a conspiracy of the ruling party to thwart the Assembly transaction on the first day.

“The BJD MLAs, led by Byomkesh Ray, has shown disrespect to the national anthem at the behest of their party chief and chief minister Naveen Patnaik,” said Mr Mishra.

BJD legislator Nrusingh Sahoo, while defending his party members, said the membera who shouted slogan, might be unaware about the recitation of national anthem.

“It is an inadvertent mistake,” said Mr Sahoo.

Following pandemonium, Speaker Niranjan Pujari adjourned the House till 3 pm. The House was finally adjourned till Thursday morning as the BJD members again created ruckus in the afternoon.
