Bihar youth with BJP, says Amit Shah

BJP president Amit Shah said the party, contesting the Bihar elections in an alliance with three others, had the support of backward castes, including dalits, Mahadalits and OBCs.

BJP president Amit Shah said the party, contesting the Bihar elections in an alliance with three others, had the support of backward castes, including dalits, Mahadalits and OBCs. He said the party had reworked its strategies for the coming three phases on October 28, November 1 and November 5.

Mr Shah said the package announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the issue of development was pulling voters, particularly youths, towards the party. Rejecting claims by his own party leaders, including some tweets by filmstar-politician Shatrughan Sinha, that the party had not done well in the first two phases, he said: “We are confident the party will win the Assembly polls in Bihar.”

Mr Shah further added: “The people of Bihar want the ‘Bimaru’ tag removed, so irrespective of caste and community they are turning towards our party. Only our party can bring change in the state.”

Mr Shah claimed the BJP’s support base had increased in the state after the PM’s package announcement, and that the people were backing it to prevent “jungle raj” from returning and hindering the state’s development.

“The mood of the people is in favour of our party as they don’t want the return of jungle raj in Bihar and are waiting for the development of the state,” the BJP chief added.

Asked to clarify if the party, after its analysis of the last two phases, had decided to declare its candidate for chief minister, Mr Shah said: “There is a parliamentary board in the party which will decide on the issue after the results of the Assembly election.”
