In what can be termed as his most significant decision so far, UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday dropped eight of his ministers, including five at Cabinet level and three ministers of state. Nine other ministers were also stripped of their portfolios with immediate effect, and will now serve as ministers without portfolio.

All the ministers dropped are senior leaders and wielded a lot of clout in their respective areas. The sacked ministers include Raja Mahendra Aridaman Singh, Ambica Chaudhary, Shiv Kumar Beria, Narad Rai and Shivakant Ojha. All were members of the state Cabinet.

The ministers of state who faced the axe are Alok Kumar Shakya, Yogesh Pratap Singh and Bhagwat Sharan Gangawar.
