In a big setback to the BJP in Varanasi and Lucknow, and a “wake-up call” that the Modi magic can’t work with poor candidates, all its nominees lost in the cantonment board polls whose results were declared Monday.
Varanasi is PM Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency and Lucknow is home minister Rajnath Singh’s seat. In Varanasi, the BJP lost all seven seats to Independents, and in Lucknow it lost all eight seats.
In Agra, it won one of eight seats while it got two of Mathura’s seven seats.
