Apparently yielding to pressure by the Sangh, the Madhya Pradesh government has placed nine police personnel, including an additional superintendent of police (ASP), under suspension after booking them under harsh charges of attempt to murder in connection with the September-25 incident in which a local Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader was allegedly assaulted by cops in Balaghat district.
In an unusual move, state BJP president Nand Kumar Chouhan asked MP home minister Bhupendra Singh to make a clarification on the incident at the two-day executive body meeting of the party that started at Gwalior on Wednesday, after senior saffron leaders took the state government to the task for the incident.
Mr Singh said nine police personnel, including local ASP Rajesh Sharma, have been placed under suspension and harsh charges of attempt to murder are slapped against them for assaulting RSS pracharak Suresh Yadav at the Baihar police station in Balaghat district on September 25. He added that a special team will reach Bihar soon to probe the case.
Earlier, several Sangh leaders, including BJP’s national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, came down heavily on the state government for not taking stern action against erring cops, while describing the assault as “unpardonable act”.
The apparent knee jerk reaction to the development by the MP government has sparked resentment among cops who regretted the “harsh” action against nine police personnel saying that they were only discharging their duty.
The RSS pracharak, who is accused of posting offensive messages in WhatsApp lampooning the AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, was summoned to the Baihar police station on September 25 and allegedly thrashed by cops, leaving him seriously injured.
