In what could be a major breakthrough for external affairs ministry, Bangladesh took back on Friday ten of its nationals who had been declared illegal immigrants by foreigners court in Assam.
Disclosing that ten Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman and two minors, were deported to the neighbouring country through the Kalibarighat passport check post at international border in Karimganj Thursday, the deputy commissioner of Cachar S. Vishwanathan said that the process to deport 63 more such illegal immigrants languishing in detention camps has begun.
He pointed out that BSF had handed over identification details of these Bangladeshi nationals to Border Guards of the neighbouring country, which accepted them upon verifying their link.
Mr Vishwanathan admitted that it was a significant diplomatic achievement of the governments of the two neighbouring nations.
