Arun Jaitley: Why does Rahul hate suits, love gold

Finance minister Arun Jaitley wondered Thursday why the Congress has “hatred for suits” but “love for gold”.

Finance minister Arun Jaitley wondered Thursday why the Congress has “hatred for suits” but “love for gold”. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi present in the House, Mr Jaitley tried to show the contradiction in Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s penchant for calling the NDA government a “suit-boot ki sarkar”.

“I am unable to understand this politics, this economics, where you hate suits but are in love with gold. In winter, one wears suits, but you have a problem with that, but have an obsession with gold, whose imports are close to Rs 2 lakh crores,” said Mr Jaitley, while replying to the two-day discussion on the Finance Bill.

Mr Gandhi last year began a scathing attack on the NDA government, calling it a “suit-boot ki sarkar” and targeted Mr Modi over his frequent foreign visits. Mr Gandhi has also supported the agitation by jewellers protesting over the imposition of one per cent excise duty on jewellery.
