Denying media reports, the Central government stated on Thursday that Union finance minister Arun Jaitley’s meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Mr Lou Jiwei, stands as per schedule on June 27.

“Only the Economic Affairs secretary-level ‘Indo-China Financial Dialogue’ has been postponed as he has deferred his visit to China to deal with Brexit-related issues back home,” said the statement.

Economic affairs secretary Shaktikanta Das was asked to stay back in Delhi in view of the voting on Brexit, which took place on Thursday, to decide whether Britain should stay in the European Union or exit, which will have implications for India.

Fresh dates in July for the financial dialogue at the secretaries’ level are being worked out. The two countries have so far had seven rounds of financial dialogue at the finance secretary-level, the last being in New Delhi in 2014.

Earlier news reports in certain sections of the media had indicated that Mr Jaitley’s bilateral meeting with his Chinese counterpart in Beijing had been cancelled.

The minister is on a five-day official visit to China to participate in the two-day AIIB board of governors’ meeting, on June 25 and 26. He will also meet Chinese investors and bankers.
