New Delhi: Former President of India Mr Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday launched the book of former finance minister Mr P Chidambaram. The book, Speaking Truth to Power, is a compendium of Mr Chidambaram’s articles published in the last one year.

Speaking at the event, Mr Mukherjee said that disruptions in Parliament is a betrayal of the commitment to the people of the country. The former President of India also spoke about his relationship with Mr Chidamb-aram. He said, “We were together in the cabinets of Mr Narasimha Rao and Dr Manmohan Singh. There were often issues on which we did not agree, but that is the beauty of democracy.”

While Mr Chidambaram hinted at a pre-election understanding between Opposition parties before the elections to counter the Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi.

He said, “In a multiparty democracy, it is difficult to get all Opposition parties for consensus which is natural. But there will be a pre-poll and a post-poll understanding between the Opposition parties.”

On the question of the BJP leadership pitching for simultaneous elections, Mr Chidambaram termed it another ‘Jumla like one nation one tax’. “Unless you amend the Constitution, simultaneous elections can’t be done,” he added.
